If the pandemic has taught us anything it is that we need to cultivate problem solvers and computational thinkers. Our critical thinking skills have been put to the test and we strongly believe that it’s important that we go back to better. To do this, IDEA has developed a workshop focusing on the newly adopted computer science standards. Empowering ourselves, empowering our students.

We will begin with debunking misconceptions of computer science and design thinking in general. Computer science is so much more than just coding and cannot be a one and done lesson. Developing critical thinkers is essential for all areas of study.

Next is a deep dive into unpacking and understanding the CS standards. What are they and how can we break them down in meaningful ways? Get familiar with the new standards in this session and begin to recognize how they fit into your subject matter.

Finally, we will allow learners the opportunity to learn how to meaningfully integrate CS standards into their practice. Learn strategies for marrying the CS standards to your learning targets and unique ways to successfully implement a well rounded lesson. Leveraging the CS standards and reframing your thinking regarding computer science will allow you to reach more learners in a deeper, richer way!

Illinois educators can earn up to 5 PDHs for attending this workshop.
